Good leadership impacts on quality of life
Those of you who are familiar with our work will know that we firmly believe that good leadership and management is vital to the success of any organisation. When that organisation cares for the elderly, the infirm and the vulnerable, the issue of good leadership takes on even greater importance.
A few months ago business expert Sir Gerry Robinson featured in a two-part documentary about the state of dementia care homes in the UK. The programmes made for disturbing viewing. What was particularly significant was the difference in leadership styles and motivation between the high performing care homes and the ones that were struggling. Poor leadership and a failure to tackle the obvious issues eventually led to the closure of one home, with all the associated trauma and distress for residents and staff alike.
